October is Book Sprint month
This October there are 3 Book Sprints lined up – one each for Google (San Francisco), Safari Books Online (Boston), and the European Commission (Portugal). It is going to be a fascinating month as the sprints are all very diverse and will explore different aspects of the Book Sprint methodology.
The first of the three is for the Book Sprints for ICT Research (http://booksprints-for-ict-research.eu) project funded by the European Commission. This event is organised by the research project for Oct 7 – 11 and will bring academics from Urbanixd (www.urbanixd.eu) together to sprint on “Critical Design as a Methodology for Exploration of Urban Interaction Design”. There will be a programmer, editor, designer, logistics manager, team manager, and researcher from the research project attending as well as Adam Hyde facilitating and 6 participants from Urbanixd. The event will be held in the beautiful village of Aldeia da Mata Pequana near Lisbon, Portugal.
Second in the series is a Book Sprint for the Google Summer of Docs, a project initiated by Aspiration Tech (http://aspirationtech.org/), FLOSS Manuals (http://www.flossmanuals.org), and the Google Open Source Programs Office. Adam will be facilitating 3 simultaneous Book Sprints for 3 Open Source projects – OpenMRS, Gnome, and BCL-CAD. Over 30 participants from around the world will be attending and the event will be held at the Google campus in Sunnyvale (Silicon Valley), California. Allen Gunn from Aspiration will be facilitating a unconference with all participants in the day before and day after the sprints.
Lastly, the first sprint for a major publisher will be held in the last week of October. Adam will facilitate a crew from Safari Books Online (http://www.safaribooksonline.com/) to document their platform ‘Pub Factory’ in a 5 day sprint in Boston.
